Allotment Adventures: A change of plan
Last Saturday, during an epic watering session of the plot (mostly of the squash!) Ma turned around and said we should put an area to sit in next to the rose garden and pond. That part of the plot gets … Continue reading

Allotment Adventures: Structure
This week we got the plot. You can tell that people are beginning to think about Spring because there are more people on site, it’s also because the committee did unofficial site inspections before Christmas and spoke to the plot … Continue reading
Allotment Adventures: No work this week
This weekend was the best weather we’ve had in ages, but we didn’t work on the plot due to Ma’s head injury and having visitors. I did get the bird feeders filled up but that’s about it!

Allotment Adventures: Halfway there
I think we surprised ourselves this weekend. We have both the larger squash beds built and got the paths in. I dug the area over, Ma did so much weeding and then because there was wood chip (ex Christmas trees) … Continue reading

Allotment Adventures: A Tidy Up
I love to read Allan Jenkins’ Sunday column in the Observer about his allotment. This week, in one of the comments, someone talks about this time of year and the garden’s descent into chaos. While the plot isn’t actually in … Continue reading

Allotment Adventures: Dreaming for Next Year
I didn’t get to the plot last weekend, Ma and I went to the allotment the weekend before last. We dug up leeks for lunch (leek, anchovy and goats cheese tart), we refilled the bird feeders and we chatted to … Continue reading

Allotment Adventures: Busy doing nothing
Honestly the week has passed and we’ve done nothing except re-up the birdfeeders. This week we harvested leeks, kale and chard and bought seed potatoes. We have settled on five bags of nicola, one of pink fir apple and two … Continue reading
Allotment Adventures: Autumn Raspberries and buying seeds
The weather last weekend was grey and miserable, it wasn’t properly cold but felt cold because it was so grey. The herb patch is looking green but straggly (you can see how warm it’s been because the lemon verbena is … Continue reading

Ham House
On Sunday, I went to Ham House. Jo and I didn’t know what to do, Jo wanted to do something ‘National Trust or museum-y’, so I suggested Ham. I’d suggest it’s our age but Jo and I together have always … Continue reading
