Last Friday, London had its first heatwave of the year.
I’ve said it before and it’s time to say it again, there are hotter places, 25c plus is not really hot anywhere but London over 25c with humidity over 50%, it’s just not nice. I get that you may have experienced higher heat and humidity but I promise you, we are suffering here.
And it’s not normal, we broke the record for hottest day in May since records began, on Sunday and Monday. On Kew Gardens recorded 34.8c with Heathrow at 35c that’s a clear 2 degrees higher than the previous record. This is climate change, because global warming causes weather instability.

This heat coming after a last frost the week before last, and not nearly enough rain, well it’s going to be interesting.
I’ve watered everyday from Friday to Tuesday and then went to Mum’s on Wednesday. I’ve put net over the polytunnel and left it open, my lovely plot neighbour has said that she’ll throw some water on it and the blueberries and strawberry tower.
I also had some help over the weekend, Christening came and helped me plant out the tomatoes and dahlias. And put up the bean frame, as yet I haven’t planted the beans!

I just need it to get below 25c so I can think! Apparently it’s going to cool down over the weekend and they are predicting rain next week, I’m getting to the point where I feel the Met Office’s rain predictions should be called hopes because it never really rains a enough to skip watering!
Anyway, the plants that are out are in God’s hands now and nothing else has been done!
