This weekend I made all the bread!
Fair enough it wasn’t quite all the bread but it was a couple of weeks worth! There is something very comforting about baking bread, it’s comforting to know that there’s enough, if you have bread you’re never very far from something good to eat!
First up was Dan Lepard’s baps, oh that sounds suggestive but there is no way for an English child of my generation to use the word baps without feeling like they’ve landed in a ‘Carry On’ film or an episode of Open All Hours! Anyway, these are great, I make a batch and then freeze them and although they take a bit of time, they are really easy and tasty and you will forego eating bread rather than subject yourself to the stuff you buy in the supermarket.
Next or rather concurrently was a sourdough loaf. I’ve recently taken to adding a couple of handfuls of sultanas to my usual recipe. It’s really good for toast and cheese but not so great for poached eggs on toast, so I wanted some plain.
It’s not the most beautiful thing in the world but it tastes amazing and I still get a thrill from knowing that I made it and it still feels like magic. I’m getting more of a handle on what works and how best to treat it and I almost do it without thinking about it.

This looks delicious!
Thank you! All iphone and ipad photos because I left my camera and laptop at home, but both breads taste better than my poor photography makes them look!
